Gardens of Illucium collaboration

I’m really excited about a new show that I’m working on with the Hutchins Consort (hutchinsconsort.org). It’s a whole new 90-minute structured improvisation called Gardens of Illucium. This piece follows my Autocosm series that I began in 2005 with Gardens of Thuban, and takes us into a lush ethereal world of dream organisms — species of the imagination, and species which stimulate the imagination.

Joe McNalley, the artistic director of the Hutchins Consort, is composing the music that he and the consort will perform as I improvise the garden in virtual reality.  The music is going to be a combination of classical, world music, folk, and jazz. My garden will combine geometry and gesture. We aim to take an audience on an exotic and other-worldly trip.

We’ll be performing in La Jolla, CA on August 12, and at the  Glendale Planetarium (CA) on August 14. I think it’s going to be an amazing experience. Hope you can make it.
